INTRAUTERINE INSEMINATION
IUI
The amount of couples turning to professional help for conception is rising and there are many different treatments available, Whether you are of benefit to that treatment depends on tests and Diagnoises of your Infertility Problems.
Many couples with unexplained infertility are recommended for IUI, or women who suffer from Endometriosis.
Also this treatment is beneficial to women with Cervical mucas problems as it may be hostile or scanty.
If a man has antibodies in his sperm the good Sperm can be seperated.
Preparation For IUI
Your Husband Partner will be asked to produce a sample of his sperm this can either be done at home or in the hospital, The downfall of this is the pressure on the man to perform this in the clinic, and the inability to ejaculate, Thats why most couples prefer to do this in the privacy of there own home and take sample straight to hospital, A good tip is to keep sample in your bra so as it stays at body temperature until you arrive at the lab.
What happens to the sperm ??
The sperm is then washed and treated this is very helpful for partners where the husband has a low motility.
This meaning the sperm is unable to break through the cervix.
Timing is everything
As with natural methods of recognising fertility timing is everything, You may well be placed on ovulation stimulating medication, This is to enhance ovulation also releasing more than one egg to up your chances around transfer from the syringe, Any good clinic will monitor your cycle and opk test is very important at this time. All good clinics will offer 7 day service so you can ring as soon as your LH surge begins.
Transfer
The transfer is normally performed when Ovulation is imminant or as occuring, and is very simple and takes minuites, there are two insemination methods the normal IUI method would be to inject your partner or donor sperm into the cavity of the uterus,Using a catheter a speculam is used to open the vagina and the dr can then inject the sperm into the uterus and let the sperm swim to the fallopian tubes where the egg is progressing ..
The second being ( SIFT) Sperm intrafallopian Transfer
Because technology has progressed so far now with the help of special catheters and ultrasound scan, As before a small catheter is placed on the uterus and through to the fallopian tubes then insemination is done this is very helpful for couples where the man has low motility, thus making the swim easier for the sperm to meet the egg.
Risks of IUI
The risk of IUI is multiple Pregnancy as you are given super ovulation drugs thus producing more then one egg. Many famous cases of high multiples Sextuplets and octuplets have occured after IUI.
