Welcome , You've reached a cool place for aging people who aren't finished yet and want to help themselves... When we were growing up, we knew that at some time in the future, we would retire and go on to live "the good life" based on our work efforts and health. Computers have changed that paradigm, and changes in business structure has changed the rules... Age discrimination is not a comfortable subject. Companies threatened by the fact that they cannot continue displacing older workers with "youth" movements without incurring legal liability are creating policies and tactics that violate both the spirit and letter of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act that was put in place to protect older workers. They are crafting their tactics around carefully planned legal advice based on the current law's structure... Today, workers find themselves shoved into mediocre and low -paying jobs due to the administration's corrupt and runaway immigration policies, business tactics of reorganizations ,mergers, and outright fraud. Workers are being downsized based on age in direct violation of the law, and offered no protection by the agencies responsible for enforcing it. Government created the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, as a barrier to this type behavior, which provides no protection to government workers or independent contractors; so business has forced us to become contractors so they can avoid liability for their actions . We need to remedy this, by putting businesses on notice, joining forces with organizations, and creating a movement to correct these inequities. Aging Horizons is open for discussions of ideas to assist workers to find new jobs, assist displaced people and those in need to understand what is happening to them . Seniority is no longer a benefit of the workplace as it once was. It has become a liability. The ideals that we all understand about what once made America great must be reinstituted by re-creating the age-diverse workforce that once occupied the business community of our nation. In an society that praises diversity, age is considered a new paradigm to be used in judging how capable a worker is in the performance of a job without considering their talents and skills. The important thing to remember is that you are not alone in this struggle. There are many people out there who are displaced workers and really don't understand it all yet. Business has responded to the Age Discrimination Act by using technicalities to practice age discrimination on a grand scale. Thanks for your ideas and inspirations... help anyone you can in the effort to overcome these problems. There are no victims here... only those that are committed to create the community that our nation was founded to be... one of justice and equality, where people can work, and age, with dignity. |
