Flash Fiction is 300-1,000 words or less....Normal is under 500 or less for general guideline and you'll discover alot of variations. Publishers typically want under 500...

Micro-Fiction (and sub-categories, such as, Ultra-Light and Postcard)

 is 10-300 words or less,

but most follow a 100- 110 words maximum...and that varies as well...

Ultra-Light Fiction is anything below 100-110 words...and you can create even ultra-ultra light if really inspired and talented!

Postcard Fiction, 55 words or less,

all are becoming more popular all the time....

Why? You ask.  Because the Flash, Ultra, Light, and Postcard Fiction are extreme exercise for the writer. Each word HAS to count to convey the story. No room for tag lines and long, drawn out desriptives, and any passive voice in writing these types of fiction. It was originally used to teach fiction writing because of its strict rules, and became a fun fiction to write.

Be careful...It's extremely addictive!
